    Virtual China is an exploration of virtual experiences and environments in and about China. The topic is also the primary research area for the Institute for the Future's Asia Focus Program in 2006. IFTF is an independent, nonprofit strategic research group with more than 35 years of forecasting experience based in Palo Alto, CA.

    Lyn Jeffery is a cultural anthropologist and Research Director at the Insitute for the Future, where she leads its Asia Focus Program.
    Jason Li is currently a design research intern at Adaptive Path. He previously worked at IFTF & Microsoft Research Asia, and recently graduated from Brown University.
    Nan Yang is a freelancer in Shanghai whose many projects include part-time Mandarin teacher at MandarinShanghai.com, assistant for Eric Eldred from Creative Commons, translating manager for gOFFICE, translator for MeMedia, member of Social Brain Foundation, and author of 1idea1day.com. She is also passionate to take part in small and innovative seminars in Shanghai.

About Asia Focus

  • In response to the great need for foresight about Asia, IFTF has launched the Asia Focus Program. Hong Kong falls yet again

The Hong Kong government proves yet again that it is decidedly backward with regards to internet governance.

  • "Police raided a Sham Shui Po flat and arrested Woo"
  • "fireman 1324" is fined $5000 HKD (~$650 USD)

It seems like the HK government likes to single out individual internet users and arrest/fine them to make an example out of them.

Even then, to fine someone for posting a dirty hyperlink in an "adult" section?

As someone who's about to visit China, I've been reading your site with great interest.

I'm curious to know whether you know of any resources where I might find information on Beijing's theatre scene?

I don't know anything off the top of my head, I'd recommend picking up one of those local event mags ("that's beijing" is the most well-known if I recall correctly) and checking that out. Shouldn't be too hard to find one...

Yes, you can also find it online. Also check out what's on at the venerable People's Art Theatre, which often performs plays about Beijing culture. Mostly in Chinese. Website is http://www.bjry.com/english/index.jsp
